The Crookston Public Library has partnered with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to offer free access to the state’s parks and recreation areas. The Minnesota State Parks Library Program offers community members the opportunity to visit any state park or recreation area in Minnesota without paying an entrance fee. The pass provides access to parks around the state for seven days, and is now available at the Crookston Public Library with two passes available per week. Passes may be reserved up to seven days in advance by calling the library at 218-281-4522. The Crookston Public Library is located at 110 N. Ash St. 

The Crookston Home Delivered Meals are delivered by the Villa St. Vincent today. 

Take a Kid Fishing Weekend is today and tomorrow. Minnesotans 16 or older who take a child 15 or younger fishing don’t need a license on this special weekend.

The Orchestra Summer Pops Concert is at 3:00 pm this afternoon in front of Crookston High School.  Bring a lawn chair and enjoy some fun music!

The Crookston Eagles will have Bar Bingo at the earlier time of 2:00 p.m. this afternoon.

The Crookston Home Delivered Meals will be delivered by Widseth and Northwestern Mental Health Center June 14-18.

The Golden Link will have Sit, Stand, and Dance Class on Monday, June 14 at 2:00 p.m. The Golden Link and the United Way will sponsor a Flag retirement at 5:00 p.m. in the Golden Link parking lot. Following the ceremony, there will be a free meal for Veterans and one guest. $6.00 for all others. Hamburger and brats with potato salad, baked beans, fruit, and dessert, and the Collector’s Club will meet at 6:30 p.m.

The Crookston City Council will meet Monday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Crookston High School Auditorium.

The Crookston Ways and Means Committee meeting for Monday, June 14 is cancelled due to a lack of agenda items. 

The Golden Link will have Pinochle on Tuesday, June 15 at 1:00 p.m.

The Polk County Commissioners will meet Tuesday, June 15 at 2:30 p.m. at the Polk County Transfer Station. 

The Polk County Commissioners Board of Review will meet Tuesday, June 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the Polk County Transfer Station. 

The Crookston Planning Commission for Tuesday, June 15 is canceled due to a lack of agenda items. The next regular meeting will be Tuesday, July 20. 

The Golden Link will have Men’s Cards on Wednesday, June 16 at 8:00 a.m., Board Meeting at 9:00 a.m., Experienced Cribbage with Hank at 10:00 a.m., and the movie “Grand Daddy Day Care” at 1:00 p.m.

The Crookston Public Library will offer Fish Painting (Gyotaku) on Wednesday, June 16 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Catherine from Red River State Recreation Area will teach you about the six senses of fish. Then, you’ll make your own fish art with Gyotaku, the Japanese art of fish painting. 

Trinity Lutheran Church will be hosting Beyond the Church Walls which is an evening of music, food for purchase, and fellowship in the Trinity Lutheran’s parking lot will be Wednesday, June 16. Food for purchase from Joe’s Diner starts at 5:00 p.m., music by Et Tu at 6:00 p.m., and then they will also be celebrating Jean LaPlante’s Retirement at 6:00 p.m. 

The Fisher American Legion will have Burger Night on Wednesday, June 16.

The Golden Link will have Pinochle on Thursday, June 17 at 1:00 p.m.

Lake Agassiz Regional Library is celebrating its 60th Anniversary by inviting the community to enjoy a free outdoor concert with music for all ages by Anthony Diaz at the Crookston Public Library on Thursday, June 17 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The concert will be held outside and people should bring lawn chairs.  Food will be available for purchase. In case of rain, it will be rescheduled to June 24.

The Golden Link will have rolls on Friday, June 18 at 8:30 a.m.

The Crookston Home Delivered Meals will be delivered by the Trinity W.E.L.C.A June 21-25.

The Golden Link will have a Sit, Stand and Dance Class and the Crookston Women’s Club will meet on Monday, June 21 at 2:00 p.m.

The Polk County Commissioners will meet Tuesday, June 22 at 8:00 a.m. at the Polk County Transfer Station. 

The Golden Link will have Pinochle, Recycled Cards,  and Pocket Making on Tuesday, June 22 at 1:00 p.m. The flags will be given to those who have served our country as a reminder that we appreciate them. There will be an Ice Cream social from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. with sundaes, malts or root beer floats for $2.00.

The Crookston Public School will be holding a public meeting on June 22nd at 5:30 pm in the CHS Auditorium to discuss ESSR III funds (federal funds). They will go through current strategies that they are considering and open up discussion on other ideas from the community on ways to best serve our kids and families as we transition into a more normal year next year. 

The Marshall County Area Veterans Memorial Park Committee will have a Park Dedication on Tuesday, June 22  at 7:00 PM.  The Dedication of the Outdoor portion of the Memorial Park will take place on the west side of the Marshall County Courthouse in Warren.  

The Golden Link will have Men’s Card on Wednesday, June 23 at 8:00 a.m., Comfort Bears at 9:00 a.m., Experienced Cribbage with Hank at 10:00 a.m., and the movie “Casablanca” at 1:00 p.m.

The Crookston Public Library will offer Drones at Castle Park on Wednesday, June 23 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Castle Park. Chief Pilot Deb will show you what her drones can do in the STEM event. The rain date is June 30. 

The Fisher American Legion will have Burger Night on Wednesday, June 23.

The Golden Link will have Foot Care on Thursday, June 24 at 8:30 a.m., call 281-3385 to make an appointment. A Norwegian Meal Fundraiser will be held at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $10.

Wesley United Methodist Church Summer Salad Lunch will be Thursday, June 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Limited seating will be available. Takeout orders from Fellowship Hall or curbside pickup available. Each salad takeout will include 4 salads: wild rice chicken, broccoli, potato, and pasta salad. Dessert choices are chocolate, lemon, bread pudding, or glorified rice. The cost is $10.

The Red Lake County Committee on Aging is hosting Senior Day on Friday, June 25 at 1:15 p.m. at the One and Only Oklee Hall. Senior Citizens will be entertained by The Looney Lutherans. The Crookston Public Library will offer the event Bee Smart: The Lives of Pollinators on Wednesday, July 14 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Steph will show us how our plants and food supply are kept alive by our pollinators. Find out what it takes to be a beekeeper and what equipment is used. 

UMC Teambackers Golf Classic presented by Altru Health Systems will be at the Minakwa Golf Course on Friday, July 16. Registration will start at 9:00 a.m. and the shotgun start will be at 10:00 a.m. Teams will be handicapped and the five-member team’s total handicap must equal 60 or more. Participants must be 18 years of age or older or a high school graduate to play. The registration fee is $100 per participant. CONTINUING ANNOUNCEMENTS

The City of Crookston has a survey to gauge knowledge, experiences, and opinions of the City of Crookston. The responses will be used to gain a better understanding of how local residents feel about the activities and amenities currently offered, their representation for change within the community, and review areas of improvement. Twig and Branch Collection will be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month running May through October.  Place the materials on your curbside.  Branches must be cut in four-foot lengths and bundled in order for the crews to take them away.  Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away.  Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule pickup. Please note that leaves, grass, and other compostable material must be in the clear City of Crookston bags and will be collected on your regular garbage collection day.

Crookston Public Schools, in partnership with the United Way of Crookston, will be offering free grab-and-go summer meals for all children from Highland Elementary School this summer. The program will run every Monday-Thursday from June 7 – July 29. Meals will be distributed on a first-come, first serve basis from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm.

Explore Tales and Trails summer Library Experience takes place at the Crookston Library  through July 31. Read to win great prizes and attend outdoor events. This program is for everyone ages 0-18. Visit the Crookston Library to pick up a reading log or sign up to participate virtually on your mobile device by downloading the Beanstack app or visiting larl.org/explore. 

The Golden Link is serving noon lunch Monday through Friday, and Thursday evening dinner.. Cost is $6 and available to the public. Veterans meals are half price on the first Monday of the month. Call 281-3072 by 10:00 the day you plan to have lunch. 

The Crookston Friends of the Library meet the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

The Crookston Library Board meets the first Wednesday of each month at 5:15. 

The Cove Youth Center in Crookston will be open Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:30-6:30 p.m. for 7th-8th graders, and from 6:30-9:30 p.m. for 9th-12th graders.  Students and parents should call ahead to check availability of the youth center at 218-470-0149. 

Polk County Public Health is available to answer questions about COVID 19, and help obtain essential services such as groceries, medications, and other daily items at 281-3385.  The phone is staffed Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
