The 39th Annual Minakwa Junior Golf Tournament will be held Monday, August 3. Pre-register by today. Tee times for juniors age 15-17 will be 8:30 a.m., 13-14 will be 9 a.m., 11-12 will be 9:30 a.m., 9-10 will be 10 a.m., and 8 & under is 10:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for Boys and Girls Medalists with trophies and door prizes age 9-17 and the cost is $20 for nine holes including lunch. Age 8 & under will play four holes and receive participation medals for $10 including lunch. Sponsored by the Crookston Lions and Minakwa Golf Course. 

The Crookston Airport Commission will meet today at 8:00 a.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. 

The Wesley United Methodist Church Summer Salad Luncheon today from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Curbside delivery.  A decision for August and September will be forthcoming and will be announced. 

The Crookston Eagles will have bar bingo tonight at 7 p.m. A shrimp or wings basket is available for $7. 

The Crookston School District summer food program will run through July 31. The meals, which include breakfast and lunch will be available from 11-1 p.m. at Highland School for kids 18 and under. With the non-congregate COVID-19 rules, the kids need not be present, so parents can pick up the number of required meals and take them home.

The USDA Farmers to Families Food Box pick-up will be Saturday, August 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. or until supplies are gone. The pick-up location will be at the Crookston High School east parking lot, please follow instructions when you enter. It’s a drive-thru pick up and the volunteers will distribute the boxes to the vehicles adhering to social distancing. The protein box will be 11 pounds of frozen meat. There is no income guideline and no paperwork. Brought to you in partnership by Tri-Valley Opportunity Council, Polk County and the North Country Food Bank. 

The 3rd annual Crookston Chamber photo contest runs through August 1. Photos must be posted to the contest posting on the Chamber Facebook page to be eligible.

The Climax Parish Food shelf will be open Thursday, August 6 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the back door of the Climax Library.

Due to COVID-19, RiverView Health will offer two separate First Aid Training Classes with smaller class sizes for social distancing purposes. The same course will be offered on Thursday, Aug. 6 (class is full), and again on Friday, Aug. 7 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the RiverView Home Care building, 721 South Minnesota Street in Crookston.  Cost is $45 Participants will learn to provide first aid for acute injuries and sudden illnesses such as burns, bites, poisoning, and seizures. Filing for the local elected office positions closes on Tuesday, August 11 at 5 p.m.:

 

  • Crookston School Board has three board spots up for election for a four-year term. The filing fee is $2 and affidavits are available and can be filed at the District Office at 402 Fisher Avenue Suite 593. 
  • Crookston Township Board will be taking affidavits of candidacy for Supervisor Seat A – 6 year term, Supervisor Seat B – 6 year term, and Clerk Seat E – 4 -year term. Affidavits can be filed with the Crookston Township Clerk at Valley Technology Park with a $2 filing fee, contact Theresa Tahran at 218-289-2569 if interested in filing.
  • City of Crookston City will be taking affidavits for City Council for Wards 1,3,5, and an at-large seat for four-year terms. Filing is $2 and can be done at City Hall.

 

The Fisher Legion and SAL meeting will be Tuesday, August 11 at 7 p.m.

The City of Crookston will be conducting interviews for City Administrator on August 12-13. The candidates will have a community tour August 12 from 1-3 p.m., and a community meet and greet from 5-7 p.m. The Crookston City Council will interview candidates from 8:15-11:45 a.m. on August 13 followed by a City Council meeting at 12 p.m. to deliberate and make a decision on whom to hire.

Riverview Health will be offering CPR classes on two nights, Thursday, August 13 and Friday, August 14 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Riverview Home Care Building located at 721 South Minnesota Street. The 16th Annual Crookston Blue Line Club Golf Scramble will be Friday, August 14 at Minakwa Golf Course in Crookston. It’s a 5 person scramble with 8:00 .m. registration and 9:00 a.m. shotgun start. A team sponsorship is $350, an individual entry is $70. There will be lunch, games and prizes. The Crookston High School Class of 1965’s 55th Class Reunion scheduled for Ox Cart Days Week August 17-23 has been canceled.

The University of Minnesota Crookston and the Crookston Classic Cruisers will host a Golden Eagle Classic Cruise from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, August 20. Join in by decorating your yard, driveway, garage, or host a tailgate by registering here by Wednesday, August 19. Prizes will be awarded for best maroon and gold, best yard/driveway decor using the “I AM CROOKSTON” theme, and best dressed Golden Eagle. Each participating tailgate will receive an I AM CROOKSTON sign upon registering.

CONTINUING ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Crookston Friends of the Library meet the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

The Crookston Library Board meets the first Wednesday of each month at 5:15.

Trinity’s Church Office & Building in Crookston is closed to the public until further notice. Summer office hours are Tuesday thru Thursday: 8 a.m. – 12 Noon & 1:00 – 5:00 p.m., Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 12 Noon. Not all staff members will be available on all days, some may be working from home. Please call ahead if you need assistance.  

Twig and Branch Collection will be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month running through October. Place the materials on your curbside. Branches must be cut in four-foot lengths and bundled in order for the crews to take them away. Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule a pickup.

Polk County Public Health is available to answer questions about COVID 19, and help obtain essential services such as groceries, medications, and other daily items at 281-3385.  The phone is staffed Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. 

Hugo’s Family Marketplace is offering shopping for seniors and people with illnesses from 6-7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 8-9 a.m. Saturdays, and Sundays during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Care and Share New Hope Food Shelf is open every Monday and Wednesday afternoon from 1:00-5:00 pm.  For more information, or to donate, call 218-277-0000.

The Crookston Times have set out newspaper vending machines outside their office at 124 S. Broadway with non-perishable unopened food items inside for kids and families in need while schools are closed. If you would like to drop off food items, feel free to bring them to their office or fill the machines. Please help keep the machines organized and let the Times know if they’re empty.
