Governor Tim Walz has signed Executive Order 20-48 extending the Stay at Home Order and continuing closure of restaurants and other public accommodations. This temporary closure includes salons and in-person instruction at cosmetology schools. The executive order will be in effect beginning Sunday, May 3 at 11:59 PM to Sunday, May 17 at 11:59 PM.
Salons may conduct retail product sales, excluding sales of service chemicals not intended for retail. Salons may not provide any services.
Salons that sell retail products are permitted to engage in curbside or outside pick-up and delivery as long as they:
1) Do not permit customers to enter the business premises.
2) Have created a COVID-19 Preparedness Plan that follows MDH and CDC guidelines and meets OSHA standards. A plan template is provided on the DEED – For Businesses Safely Returning Work page, linked below. This is a guide, you can make your own. We do not need a copy of your plan, however, you are required to have a completed plan.
3) Are following the health and safety protocols outlined in EO 20-48, including conducting health screenings of workers.
We understand and share your need to prepare for what reopening your salon looks like. New resources are being developed that will help salons and licensees have a clean and safe reopening.
