MARINE CORPS TO CONDUCT TWO WORKSHOPS FOR LOCAL EDUCATORS

Marine Corps Recruiting Station (RS) Twin Cities will conduct two Educator Workshops in San Diego, California, in 2020 to increase the military knowledge of local educators so that they may in turn relay that information to their students.

Recruiting Station Twin Cities contains 11 recruiting substations covering an area of Minnesota, North Dakota, Eastern South Dakota, and Western Wisconsin. RS Twin Cities will invite 15 educators from those areas to accompany us on an all-expense-paid trip to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego to see firsthand how the Marine Corps boot camp transforms their students from recruits to Marines.

While in San Diego, the educators will experience for themselves a Marine Corps fitness test, martial arts training, and a bayonet assault course. While on the depot, they will get a chance to speak with recruits from their local areas and witness a graduation ceremony. They will also take a trip to Camp Pendleton where they will be given to opportunity to tour Marine Corps aircraft and shoot live rounds on the rifle range.

The purpose of the trip is to clear up misconceptions that many educators have when it comes to military service. In our experience, many educators are hesitant to recommend or answer questions from their students about the military. Our goal is to arm them with the knowledge they need to inform their students about their post-high school career options and the recruitment process.

These workshops will take place on February 24-28th, 2020 and August 3-7th, 2020. RS Twin Cities would like to extend the invitation to our local media to accompany the educators on one or both of the trips. The Marine Corps will cover the cost of food, travel and hotel.
