DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COMPLAINT BECOMES PURSUIT AFTER ATTEMPTED TRAFFIC STOP

On Saturday, September 14 at approximately 11:44 p.m., officers from the Grand Forks Police Department responded to a domestic violence complaint at 3920 Garden View Dr.  Officers located the involved suspect in his vehicle in the parking lot of the apartment complex.  The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Grand Forks resident Drew Brooks Jr., fled from an officer in his vehicle after a traffic stop was attempted.  A vehicle pursuit ensued.  During the vehicle pursuit Brook Jr’s sideswiped a parked car and hit a street sign near 3920 Garden View Dr.  Brooks Jr. also struck a traffic signal near the intersection of Demers Ave. and N. 42nd St.  as he continued to flee from officers.  He proceeded onto the interstate, traveling southbound, when an officer utilized a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver, forcing Brooks Jr. and his vehicle to stop on Interstate 29 near the Alerus Center. 

Brooks Jr. was taken into custody and has been charged with Domestic Violence, Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Reckless Endangerment, Reckless Driving, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.  Brooks Jr. was also cited for Open Container and No Liability Insurance.    

No one was injured as a result of this incident.
