The Crookston Eagles will have an Auxiliary Officers meeting at 6:45 p.m., and an Auxiliary meeting at 7:00 p.m. tonight. 

The Fisher American Legion Wednesday Night Special is a southern fried steak sandwich and fries for $8. 

Epitome Energy will hold an open house meet and greet with Minnesota Ag Commissioner Thom Peterson Thursday, September 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Valley Technology Park. Enjoy beverages and light hors d’oeuvres while meeting the Epitome Energy team, hearing their exciting news, the next steps and learning more Epitome Energy and the Soy Innovation Campus. 

The Climax Parish Food Shelf will be open Thursday, September 5 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

UMC invites everyone out to a Classic Tailgate Thursday, September 5 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in Lot E south of Heritage Hall. Classic Cruisers will receive 2 game passes per car. Gates open at 5:30 with the first 200 fans receiving Golden Eagle athletic T-shirts. Kickoff against MSU Moorhead will be at 7:05. Just for Kix Dance Studio will perform after the 2nd quarter.  There will be prizes given away and wear gold in support of the Golden Eagles.

The DNR is holding an open house for deer-related questions, on deer issues and on hunting regulation changes for the Roseau area Thursday, September 5 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  The meeting will be held at the Roseau County Courthouse, 606 5th Ave SW in Roseau. 

The Crookston Eagles will have bar bingo Thursday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m.

The Queen City Art Festival will be Saturday, September 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on 2nd Street and North Main in historic downtown Crookston. There will be regional featured artists, interactive art stations, artists in action, a chalk “selfie” area, squares for individual chalk art, hair chalking, games, food vendors, music and much more. The Villa St. Vincent/The Summit Foundation’s Glow Golf Tournament Fundraiser will be Saturday, September 7 at the Minakwa Golf Course. First 18 four person teams will be accepted. Registration is from 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. Shotgun start for the first 9 holes is at 4:00 p.m. Then supper and raffles and at sunset the 2nd 9 holes. Awards and raffle drawings to follow. Prizes awarded for the best decorated glow golf cart and best decorated glow golfer. The Crookston Civic Music League Entertainment Series will have their first concert at the Crookston High School Auditorium on Saturday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m., with the Annie Moses Band performing. Admission is by season ticket only. For a free ride, call THE BUS at 281-0700. 

Trinity Lutheran in Crookston will begin fall programming with Rally Sunday on September 8.  The schedule begins with traditional worship at 7:45 a.m., contemporary worship at 9:00 a.m., Jesus and Me Sunday School at 10:10 a.m. in the Sanctuary.  Coffee and pastry rolls will be provided during fellowship time after worship. 

The 15th Annual Red River Valley Sugarbeet Museum 2019 Harvest Festival will be Sunday, September 8th from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Red River Valley Sugarbeet Museum. A pulled pork dinner will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This year they are honoring the Lyle Kiel family. They will harvest sugar beets with vintage machines and many other items will be on display. People movers will be available and a free bus will run between the Sugarbeet Museum and the Polk County Historical Museum. Free admission.  For more information call 218-281-2550. 

The Polk County Museum has a traveling exhibit from the League of Women Voters of Minnesota on display through Sunday, September 8. Hours are noon to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. 

The Polk County Historical Society Pioneer Day will be Sunday, September 8 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Polk County Museum. The event opens with lunch being served, including pie and ice cream. There will be exhibits, tours, Sun Country and You Petting Zoo and spinning wheel and blacksmithing demonstrations throughout the day. There will be a display of “Hit and Miss” engines. The O’Neil Family Musicians will perform at 12:30 and Double the Trouble at 2:00 in the Centennial Building. The Woodpicks will perform at 3:00 p.m. in the Hafslo Church.  Point Paradise Stables will give free wagon rides from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. A free bus will run between the Polk County Historical Society Museum and the Sugarbeet Museum. This activity is made possible, in part, by an Art Legacy Grant from the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council. 

Beginning Monday, September 9th, Crookston City Hall will be back working normal hours from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Crookston Public Library will host an open forum  on Monday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m. allowing community members to ask questions and learn more about the Crookston School District. The panel will feature Dr. Jeremy Olson, superintendent, as well as other administrative staff. Topics covered will include the implementation of new programs, plans for a new bus garage and more. This is a great opportunity for parents and community members to ask questions and share ideas that will benefit children in our community. 

The Climax Book Club will discuss the book “Us Against You” by Fredrik Backman Monday, September 9 at the Climax Public Library.

The Crookston Library will host a presentation on Women’s Suffrage for the 100-year anniversary of Minnesota passing the 19th Amendment on Wednesday, September 11 at 4:00 p.m. The event is made possible thanks to funding from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.  The presentation will also be available at the Fertile Library at 1:00 p.m. 

The League of Minnesota Cities will be in Crookston Wednesday, September 11 to provide training on the City Code of Ethics and Conduct from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in UMC’s Bede Ballroom.  All board and commission members are invited to attend but it is not required.

The Climax Public Library is launching a monthly Genealogy workshop intended for those interested in diving into researching their family history on Thursday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m.. This free class will cover the free research tools available to library cardholders (Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest), as well as tips for gathering information.  All are welcome. The East Grand Forks Valley Corn Maize will be open weekends starting Friday, September 13 through October 20. This year’s theme is “Getting Lost with the Dinosaurs.” There is a 15 acre corn maze, family activities and concession stand. The Crookston Library will have a free bus trip to Camp Ripley and Charles Lindbergh Museum in Little Falls Saturday, September 14.  Registration is first come, first serve. Attendees must be 18 or older and bring a sack lunch or purchase one at the Central Market when they stop in Detroit Lakes.  Pickup is 6:45 a.m. at the library. Rodnes Church in rural Erskine will host a Norwegian Day Fall Dinner on Sunday, September 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  The menu includes meatballs, mashed potatoes, vegetables, gravy, salads, lefse, rommegrot, rolls, and sweets. Free will offering, all are welcome.

Due to the RiverView Health construction, the south entrance to the Altru Clinic parking lot will be closed effective until further notice. Please use Carroll Street to access the north entrance to the Altru Clinic parking lot.  Altru Clinic would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. 

Branch and twig collection will be held the second and fourth Mondays of each month running May through October.  Place the materials on your curbside. Branches must be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled in order for the crews to take them away.  Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule pickup.It’s never too late to learn. The Crookston Lions Club meets every Monday at noon at the Crookston Inn. 

The Crookston Public Library hosts baby bounce the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 10:00 a.m. with songs, stories, flannel board, action poems for infants and toddlers plus their caregivers. 

Fertile Library will host a knitting group each Tuesday beginning September 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  All are welcome and the event is free of charge. 

The Crookston Public Library hosts WOW: What’s on Wednesday? the second Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. for children ages 7-12 with crafts, activities and more. 

Every Thursday at 10:30 a.m., preschool children and their caregivers are invited to Storytime at the Crookston Public Library. Each week, they’ll explore a different theme through stories, songs, finger plays, flannel board stories, and a craft. No pre-registration is required, but they ask childcare providers and other groups to call ahead to ensure there will be adequate supplies at 281-4522.

The Polk County Historical Society Museum is open during the summer each Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 4:00 p.m. For more information call 218-281-1038.  Admission is free- donations accepted. 

Riverview Health’s monthly Type 2 Diabetes Support Group meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at RiverView Health in Meeting Room 1.  The group is led by RiverView Dietitian Darcy Larson, RD, LD and Kelsey Billing, RN, BSN. The Type 2 meetings are open to anyone with Type 2 diabetes and their family members.  New members are always welcome.
