The 2nd Annual Veteran’s Appreciation Breakfast and Program will be Saturday, July 27 at the Marshall County Fairgrounds.  Breakfast is from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the 4H Food Stand, free for veterans and a free-will donation for guests. From 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. there will be a program at the grandstand with music, speaker and recognition followed by an USO type show from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. featuring Dave Boyer and The Classic Swing Band.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Friends of Itasca will host a dedication event on Saturday, July 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for the new Lake Itasca Amphitheater at Itasca State Park.

The Crookston Lions and Minakwa 38th Annual Junior Golf Tournament with Monday, July 29.  Registration begins at 8:00 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. Ages 8 and under play four holes and all receive participation medals. Ages 9-10 & 11-12 play 9 holes.  Ages 13-14 & 15-17 play 18 holes with prizes awarded to boys and girls medalists along with trophies and door prizes. The University of Minnesota Extension will hold a free screening of – The Power of MN – which tells the story of how clean energy is making local economies throughout our region even stronger.  The screening will be at the Grand Theater Tuesday, July 30 from 6:00 to 8:15 p.m. with food trucks in the Crookston Public Library parking lot.

The Chamber will be hosting a Reveal Party for the 2019 Miss Crookston contestants on August 7 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the downtown Chamber location. Contestants will be announced and the public will have an opportunity to meet and take pictures of the contestants and the reigning Miss Crookston Thea Oman. Following the event, the ladies will be doing their “Fun Shoot” downtown.

The Crookston Public Library celebrating a summer of reading with moon-themed stations set up around the library, followed by prize drawings on Wednesday, August 7 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. . Branch and twig collection will be held the second and fourth Mondays of each month running May through October.  Place the materials on your curbside. Branches must be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled in order for the crews to take them away.  Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule pickup.It’s never too late to learn. Riverview Health’s monthly Type 2 Diabetes Support Group meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at RiverView Health in Meeting Room 1.  The group is led by RiverView Dietitian Darcy Larson, RD, LD and Kelsey Billing, RN, BSN. The Type 2 meetings are open to anyone with Type 2 diabetes and their family members.  New members are always welcome.

Every Thursday at 10:30 a.m., preschool children and their caregivers are invited to Storytime at the Crookston Public Library. Each week, they’ll explore a different theme through stories, songs, finger plays, flannel board stories, and a craft. No pre-registration is required, but they ask childcare providers and other groups to call ahead to ensure there will be adequate supplies at 281-4522.

Hospice of the Red River Valley is offering a seasonal grief support group in Crookston the first and third Thursday of the month April through June from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Crookston Public Library. The grief support group is free and open to any adult 18 years and older who are grieving the loss of a loved one through death. There is no pre-registration required to attend the group.

The Crookston Public Library hosts an Adult Craft Group the second Saturday of each month at 1:00 p.m. free of charge and open to all people of all experience levels to bring their unfinished projects and join others for encouragement and inspiration.
