Emma Borowicz finished in eighth place in the Finals of the 300-meter hurdles at the Class A State Track and Field Meet hosted at Hamline University in St. Paul.

Jaylen Struck-Schmitz of Belle Plaine won the event in 43.11 second followed by Shaina Zinter from Concordia Academy-Roseville who finished in 43.43 seconds. In the finals, Emma Borowicz ran from lane one and finished with a time of 47.30 seconds. “I was in lane one, and the girl in lane two, we started and right away I was caught behind,” said Borowicz. “Overall, it was tiring. Everyone was really good. I got to the last 100 (meters) and I think there were only two girls that were behind me, but it was good. It still felt nice.” Borowicz noted that she’ll be looking to improve with two more years still to compete for Crookston, “I have time to improve. I can work a little harder next year and then hopefully come back and have a faster time. There’s a lot of really fast people and there’s a lot more that I can do. It’s been a good year It’s definitely been one of the better ones learning hurdles, which is something I’ve never really done before, so getting to come down here was good.” Crookston Pirate girl’s track and field head coach Amy Boll was equally pleased with her sophomore’s performance, “I thought she had a really good start to the hurdles,” said Boll. “Making it to the podium was fantastic. She took off and had a great start to the beginning. She attacked the first hurdle and then she came around the straightaway, and I thought she looked pretty good coming over the hurdles. I’m very happy with how she performed today and how she did. She’s going to get stronger and faster. I’m just very proud to be a part of this and watch Emma be able to perform. I can’t wait to tell her ‘congratulations.'”

The State Track Meet marks the end of the Crookston Pirates track and field season.
