Vernon Schindler – Obit

Vernon Schindler, of rural Red Lake Falls, MN passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Service of the word will be held on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls with Father Bob Schreiner officiating. Burial will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery at Terrebonne. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday.

VernonJohn  Schindler was born June 10, 1932 in Lake Pleasant Township, Red Lake Falls, MN, son of John L. and Mary (Schmitz) Schindler. One of eleven children. He was raised near Red Lake Falls and attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Vern entered the US Army on December 10, 1952 and served his country in Korea until his honorable discharge on November 17, 1954.Vern returned to the family farm where he farmed with his brother Bernard.

On March 12, 1966 he was united in marriage to Mary Norton at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. The couple purchased a farm near Terrebonne where they raised their family and have since resided. He and John Schafer made the Steiger Number 3 tractor.

Vern enjoyed fishing, hunting, and telling his stories. His passion was farming and spending time with his family. He was a metal fabricator and could fix anything. Vern was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN. He was a member of the VFW in Red Lake Falls until its closing; a member of the Plummer American Legion and the Tri River Pioneer Village in Plummer.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary of Terrebonne, MN; children Joseph (Tracy)  Pueringer of Thief River Falls, MN,Christine Pueringer of Detroit Lakes, MN, Bernadette Malm of Detroit Lakes, MN, Michael Pueringer of Red Lake Falls, MN, Patrick (Gail) Pueringer of Richfield, MN, Glen Schindler of Phoenix, AZ; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brotherTheodore Schindler of Red Lake Falls, MN, sisters-in-law Pat  Schindler, Dolores Schindler of Red Lake Falls, MN; along with many nieces and nephews.

Vern is preceded in death by his Parents, daughter Lonna Duffy, brothers   Edward Schindler, Raymond Schindler, Bernard Schindler, Eugene Schindler, Valentine Schindler, stillborn infant brother Louis Schindler; sisters Louise  Kees, Josephine  Teggatz, Veronica  Hoefer and Mary Anne Schafer; sister-in-law Marianne Schindler.
