Crookston City Hall will be closed Monday, February 17 in observance of the Presidents’ Day Holiday.  Monday’s normal garbage collection will be collected Tuesday, February 18. Tuesday’s garbage collection will remain the same. 

The Polk County Transfer Station will be open Monday, February 17 from 7:00 a.m. to noon.  Normal hours of operation will resume on Tuesday, February 18.

The DFL caucuses will be held on February 25, 2020, at 7:00 p.m., with registration beginning at 6:30 p.m. While Minnesota will have a primary to select the Democratic presidential candidate, the caucuses allow voters to meet other Democrats, propose amendments to the party platform, to present resolutions, and to become a delegate to the state and national convention. Come out and cast off the winter doldrums with the Northern Jazz as they perform in the Gunderson Commons at Northland Community & Technical College in Thief River Falls on Friday, February 28. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the music beginning at 7:00 p.m. A $5 admission will be collected to support the Northwest Minnesota Community Bands, a local 501c3 that supports both the Northern Jazz and Northland Community Band. Light snacks and beverages are included for the audience to enjoy during the concert.

A Community Resource Fair is planned at the Crookston Public Library. Attendees can expect to connect with beneficial resources and various agencies serving people in the Crookston area, including those dedicated to housing, community assistance, employment and training, physical and mental health, senior programs and more. The Community Resource Fair is scheduled Tuesday, March 3 from 3:00 to 6:00  p.m. Admission to the fair is offered free of charge and all are welcome.

Notice is hereby given that the Annual Township Meeting of Crookston Township, Polk County, Minnesota, will be held Tuesday March 10, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. Meeting will be held at Valley Technology Park, 510 County Road 71, Crookston, MN.  In case of bad weather, the Annual Town Meeting will be held at the same time and place on the third Tuesday of March, which is March 17, 2020.

The local unit of the Crookston American Legion Auxiliary will again sponsor two girls to attend the Minnesota Girls State Session at Bethel University, St Paul from June 14-20. The Crookston American Legion will have Bingo on Tuesday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m. and it will be played at the Crookston V.F.W. There will be a $500 Blackout and other special games. 

Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston will have a Wednesday Lenten Supper and Service on Wednesday, April 1. Trinity’s National Youth Gathering Team will serve a supper  in the Fellowship Hall from 5:30 to 6:15. The Wednesday Lenten Worship service will be at 6:30. 

The Crookston High PATCH program offers after school homework help for 7-12th grade students Mondays through Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the CHS Media Center.  The program is in need of additional volunteers to help the growing number of students needing homework support. Every Monday  at 6:30 p.m., preschool children and their caregivers are invited to Storytime at the Crookston Public Library. Each week, they’ll explore a different theme through stories, songs, finger plays, flannel board stories, and a craft. The Crookston Public Library hosts baby bounce for ages birth to 2 years old the second and fourth Tuesday of every month October through May at 10:00 a.m. with songs, stories, flannel board, action poems for infants and toddlers plus their caregivers. Registration is not required.

Tai Chi Health will be offered every Monday (check the calendar on RiverView’s webpage at www.riverviewhealth.org for confirmation each week) from 4:00 to 5:00 pm in the Education Room at the Home Care Building, 721 S. Minnesota St., Crookston. Please wear flat footwear and comfortable clothes. 

ECFE’s Unplug and Play for ages birth to Kindergarten entrance is held the first and second Tuesday of each month October through May from 5:30-6:30 at Washington School. A variety of equipment will be available. Class is free and registration is not required.

ECFE’s Pop In and Play for ages birth to Kindergarten entrance is the fourth Saturday of each month from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. September through April at Washington School. Play in the gym using equipment designed for young children. Class is free and registration is not required. 

Fertile Library will host a knitting group each Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  All are welcome and the event is free of charge. 

The Crookston Public Library hosts WOW: What’s on Wednesday? the second Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. for children ages 7-12 with crafts, activities and more. 

The Crookston Public Library program – Ask a Techspert Technology Assistance – is every Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in January and February. Learn how to navigate your device, receive assistance with any issues, and techsperts can show you how to download eBooks and eAudiobooks. 

Riverview Health’s monthly Type 2 Diabetes Support Group meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at RiverView Health in Meeting Room 1.  The group is led by RiverView Dietitian Darcy Larson, RD, LD and Kelsey Billing, RN, BSN. The Type 2 meetings are open to anyone with Type 2 diabetes and their family members.  New members are always welcome.

JAM TIME, which stands for Jesus and Me, Together in Motion Every Day, is a new, non-denominational children’s ministry program to help kids dig into the Bible and grow their relationship with the Lord. The program will be Wednesday nights from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Hope Church in Fertile, starting in October. All children, Pre-K through 6th grade, are invited to attend! Each night at JAM TIME, children will engage in a variety of small group and large group activities that reinforce a key Bible point and verse for the week.
