The Crookston Cub Scouts are having a hat and mitten drive for the Community Food Boxes.  They will be collecting through November 15. 

The Golden Link will have an open house for Harold Opgrand’s 90th Birthday today from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. 

Dine Out Week for United Way in Crookston will be today through November 16.  Dine at any of the following local businesses and they will donate of portion of the week’s sales to the United Way of Crookston: China Moon, Crookston, Eagles, Crookston Inn, Daroos, Drafts Sports Bar & Grill, El Gordito Market, Happy Joe’s, I.C. Muggs, Irishman’s Shanty, McDonald’s,  RBJ’s, andTaco John’s.  

Crookston City Hall will be closed for Veteran’s Day, Monday, November 11, garbage collection will be collected on Tuesday, November 12. All Lake Agassiz Regional Library Branches and LINK sites will also be closed and will resume regular hours of operation Tuesday, November 12. 

The Polk County Transfer Station will be open Monday, November 11 from 7:00 a.m. to noon.  Normal hours will resume on Tuesday, November 12. 

Cathedral School will be hosting their Veterans Day program Monday, November 11 at 9:30 a.m. in the school gym. 

The Fisher Veterans Day Program will be Monday, November 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the Fisher High School Gym. 

The Fisher American Legion Auxiliary luncheon and bake sale will be Monday, November 11 from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m in the Club Room at the Fisher American Legion.  The luncheon will be a choice of chicken salad or chicken hot dish served with a roll, dessert, and coffee. 

The Highland Elementary Veterans Day Program will be Monday, November 11 at 1:30 p.m. 

The Crookston Lions will meet Monday, November 11 at 12:00 p.m. at Crookston Inn.

The Golden Link will have cards Monday, November 11 at 12:45 p.m., greeting cards at 1:00 p.m., an exercise class at 2:00 p.m., and collector’s club at 6:30 p.m. 

A Veterans Day Dinner will be held on Monday, November 11 with a social at 5:30 p.m., supper at 6:00 p.m. and and program to follow for all Crookston Veterans, their spouses and widows of Veterans at the Crookston VFW Post 1902.  The meal will include stuffed chicken with dressing, green beans, carrots, buns, coffee, water, and dessert. There will be door prizes. The event is sponsored by American Legion Post 20 and Auxiliary, VFW Post 1902 and Auxiliary, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 14 and Auxiliary. 

ECFE will have a “Just Toddling” class on Monday, November 11 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Washington School. This class is for parents and children 12 to 24 months and will include an educator-led discussion, time to share questions and concerns about this stage of life and there will be fun activities to do with your toddler. The Crookston Eagles will have $6 burger baskets Monday, November 11 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. There will be a smear tournament at 7:00 p.m. 

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church is hosting a parent’s presentation on human trafficking given by Support Within Reach on Monday, November 11 at 6:30 p.m. Support Within Reach is a private, non-profit, community service organization serving residents and those impacted by incidents of sexual violence in north central Minnesota.  Free childcare will be provided for all attendees and everyone is welcome.

Knights of Columbus Council # 1216 will have their Monthly Meeting, Monday November 11 at 7pm in the clubroom. Members invited to attend.

There will be a special meeting of the Crookston School Board on Tuesday, November 12 at 7:00 a.m. in the district office conference room.

On Tuesday, November 12, the University of Minnesota Crookston will host its 18th Annual Job and Internship Fair in Bede Ballroom, Sargeant Student Center from 1:00 to  4:00 p.m. More than 30 employers will be on hand for a variety of majors. A $500.00 scholarship will be given away to those students who participate. Parking is free and recommended in Lot A behind the student center. The free ECFE Unplug and Play for ages birth to kindergarten will be Tuesday, November 12 from 5:30 to 6:30 at Washington School gym. A variety of equipment will be available for children and their parents to enjoy and explore together.  

Crookston Early Childhood Family Education will have a class for toddlers 12-24 months called Just Toddling on Tuesday, November 12 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Washington School.  Toddlers are curious, busy, and on the go. Spend time with other parents who have the same questions and concerns about this stage of their child’s life. Enjoy activities with your toddler and an educator-led discussion about this period of rapid growth. 

Crookston VFW Post 1902 and the Auxiliary will meet Tuesday, November 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the VFW.

There will be a Baby Sign and Early Literacy class for parents and caregivers of children ages birth to 2 years and 11 months on Tuesday, November 12 , from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Crookston Public Library. Crookston City Council will meet Tuesday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber. One council member will participate by interactive communication.  The Ways and Means committee will meet immediately following. The possibility of a closed session exists with both meetings. The Red Lake Falls Food Shelf will be open the following dates in November: Wednesday, November 13; Wednesday, November 20; and Monday, November 25.  The food shelf has produce available free of charge in the hallway right outside the food shelf. Anyone in the community who can use the produce is welcome to help themselves. 

Inspirational Speaker Marc Mero will speak at the Crookston High School on Wednesday, November 13. He will speak to the Crookston High School students from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium.  The public is invited to come to his presentation from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday night in the Kiehle Auditorium at the University of Minnesota Crookston Campus and from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the Crookston High School Auditorium.

The Crookston Public Library will host a free workshop to learn how to prevent falls with Molly Hanson of Choice Therapy on Thursday, November 14 at 2:00 p.m. 

RiverView Health will host a four hour CPR class at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 14 at the RiverView Home Care Building located at 721 South Minnesota Street. The Crookston Early Childhood Summit will be Thursday, November 14 with dinner at 6:00 p.m. and the presentation from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The meal is a light chicken caesar wrap, chips, BLT pasta salad, cookie, and bottled water.  The topic of the summit is “Healthy Children=Happy Children” featuring Dr. Balaraman, RiverView Health, Jane Neubauer from the Early Childhood Dental Network, and Sue Thompson. Attendees will be entered in a drawing for a fidget basket, and receive toothbrushes for the children they work with, a book from the series “Being the Best Me” and a red ball to promote physical health through active play.  The Summit and “Tool Kit” items are funded through the Otto Bremer Foundation.

Crookston Community Education will hold a Childcare Certification Clinic, for ages 11 to 13,  on Saturday, November 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Washington School Cafeteria. Class fee is $17 and includes a book, handouts and a pizza lunch. Learn how to care for young children from a childcare expert, a nurse and a firefighter. Tickets are on sale now for the Rockin Chamber Fest on November 16.  Only 350 tickets will be sold for the Annual Chamber Celebration and Awards Nights to be held at the Crookston Inn. The evening starts with a Social Hour at 6:00, meal at 6:30 and Award Program at 7:00, followed by the musical entertainment of Kissing Company.  There will also be amazing raffle items. Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston will have their Fall Harvest and Meatball Supper on Sunday, November 17, from 4:00 to 7:00 in the Fellowship Hall. The menu includes Scandinavian meatballs and gravy, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, salad, rolls, beverages, apple and pumpkin desserts. The Bake Sale will open at 3:30 p.m.  Cost is $12 for adults, children 5-10 are $7, age 4 and under are free. Take-outs are available. Hosted by the Trinity’s Women of the ELCA.

Polk County Public Health, Crookston Public Schools and the Crookston Public Library will hold a community forum on vaping Tuesday, November 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the Crookston Public Library.  The forum will discuss the dangers of vaping, including the effect it has on the body, how addictive nicotine is, and ways to encourage children to make good choices for their future.

Due to the RiverView Health construction, the south entrance to the Altru Clinic parking lot will be closed effective until further notice. Please use Carroll Street to access the north entrance to the Altru Clinic parking lot.  Altru Clinic would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. 

Branch and twig collection will be held the second and fourth Mondays of each month running May through October.  Place the materials on your curbside. Branches must be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled in order for the crews to take them away.  Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule pickup.

ECFE’s Pop In and Play for ages birth to Kindergarten entrance is the fourth Saturday of each month from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. September through April at Washington School. Play in the gym using equipment designed for young children. Class is free and registration is not required. 

Fertile Library will host a knitting group each Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  All are welcome and the event is free of charge. 

The Crookston Public Library hosts WOW: What’s on Wednesday? the second Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. for children ages 7-12 with crafts, activities and more. 

JAM TIME, which stands for Jesus and Me, Together in Motion Every Day, is a new, non-denominational children’s ministry program to help kids dig into the Bible and grow their relationship with the Lord. The program will be Wednesday nights from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Hope Church in Fertile, starting in October. All children, Pre-K through 6th grade, are invited to attend! Each night at JAM TIME, children will engage in a variety of small group and large group activities that reinforce a key Bible point and verse for the week. Every Thursday at 10:30 a.m., preschool children and their caregivers are invited to Storytime at the Crookston Public Library. Each week, they’ll explore a different theme through stories, songs, finger plays, flannel board stories, and a craft. No pre-registration is required, but they ask childcare providers and other groups to call ahead to ensure there will be adequate supplies at 281-4522.

Riverview Health’s monthly Type 2 Diabetes Support Group meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at RiverView Health in Meeting Room 1.  The group is led by RiverView Dietitian Darcy Larson, RD, LD and Kelsey Billing, RN, BSN. The Type 2 meetings are open to anyone with Type 2 diabetes and their family members.  New members are always welcome.
