Fire Calls:

At 11:15 Thursday morning, the Crookston Fire Department was called to the 500 block of Cedar Avenue to investigate a detector that was sounding. They conducted a detector survey and wound up replacing batteries for the homeowner.

At 7:12 p.m., they were called to the UMC curve on Highway 2 for smoke coming out from under the hood of a vehicle. A serpentine belt had come off, causing the engine to overheat; no flames, just smoke. They cooled the engine and left it for the owner to get the vehicle moved.
