The Crookston Pirate Girl’ Soccer team gave up seven goals to Fergus Falls Hillcrest senior Kindra Peterson in a 7-0 loss to open the Section 8A Tournament in Fergus Falls.
Kindra Peterson opened the match with a goal in the third minute giving the hosts a 1-0 lead. Peterson was far from finished as the forward added her second goal in the 16th minute before completing her hattrick just 20 minutes into the game. Peterson added her fourth goal of the half in the 33rd minute giving the hosts a 4-0 lead at halftime. “(Kindra Peterson) has great footwork,” said Crookston head coach Sarah Reese. “She had great speed and ran through every opportunity she had. She was able to connect on her shots and we didn’t make good angled runs defensively.”
The second half played out much like the first. Kindra Peterson scored her fifth goal of the match just four minutes after halftime giving Hillcrest a 5-0 lead. In the 53rd minute, Peterson scored her sixth with her final shot into the net coming in the 56th minute closing out Hillcrest’s 7-0 win and ending the Pirates’ season. Despite the disappointing end to the season, head coach Sarah Reese remains optimistic about the future of the program. “We ended this season with more wins than we had last year,” noted Reese. “We also played competitively. We lose a great group of seniors and we wish them well into the future. I’m excited about the future because we have many returning starters.”
Crookston ends the season with a record of 4-12.
