Tickets for the Miss Crookston Pageant are available at Montague’s Flower shop for $10.  The Miss Crookston Pageant will be Friday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Crookston High School.

The Crookston Area Chamber’s “She-Shed” being raffled off for the Women’s Leadership Network this summer will be available for viewing during Ox Cart Days in the First Community Credit Union parking lot. Tickets are $25, sponsored by the Crookston Aquatic Boosters. 

The deadline to apply for the Mentored Youth Deer Hunt at Rydell National Wildlife Refuge for ages 12-15 is today.  Applications can be completed at any DNR license agent or online at www.mndnr.gov/buyalicense

The Golden Link will have coffee and rolls today at 8:30 a.m., cards at 12:45 p.m., and exercise class at 2:00 p.m. 

There will be a Pirate Girls Hockey Fundraiser of brats and corn on the cob today in the B and E Meets parking lot from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Free will offering. 

The 24th Annual Crookston Classic Cruisers Classic Car Show “Run to the Park” will be today and 17. Cost is $10 per entry. Friday at 2:00 p.m., it’s the Annual Merchants Main Street Car Show and then  Cruise to DaRoo’s at 6:00. Saturday, registration is from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Show & Shine People’s Choice Trophy and Swap Meet runs from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., plus there will be entertainment in the afternoon. 5:30–line-up for the Ox Cart parade. Summer Arts Safari and Crookston Community Theatre presents Goldilocks and the Three Pigs tonight at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the UMC Kiehle Auditorium.  Admission for adults is $5 and children are $3.  

Miss Crookston Pageant will take place tonight at 7:00pm at Crookston High School.

The Crookston Eagles will host the Miss Tootsie Pageant tonight at 9:00 p.m. 

The Crookston Eagles will have bar bingo Saturday, August 18 at 3:30 p.m., $400 must go.  And will host the CHS class of 1979 and 2009 unions following the Ox Cart parade. 

The Wesley United Methodist Church at 701 Eickhof Blvd in Crookston will host an Ox Cart Outdoor Concert and Wood Fired Pizza Sunday, August 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Lost River River Band will be playing music ranging from country to Celtic, folk and soft/modern rock. 

The Highland PTO is having a Highland School Supply Drive to help students start the year with the supplies they need and  to keep the classrooms supplied all year long. Supplies needed include: glue sticks, dry erase markers, pencils #2 or mechanical, scissors (student-sized), folders, heavy and 3-hole punched, and hand sanitizer or wipes.  Supplies can be dropped off at the Highland School Office Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., during Highland’s Meet-the-Teacher Nights Tuesday, August 27 and Wednesday, August 28 from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Come discover Nature Journaling at The Oxbow with Sandra Muzzy at the Old Crossing Treaty North Park Shelter in Huot. All ages are welcome to the Artist’s Talk and Exhibit on Thursday, August 22 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Discover the timeless practice of nature journaling  on Friday, August 23. The 38 Annual Chautaugua and French-Canadian/Metis Festival will be August 23, 24, and 25 at the Old Crossing and Treaty Park in Huot, located 9 miles southwest of Red Lake Falls or 7 miles northeast of Gentilly on County Road 11, follow the brown signs. Activities are free, donations are welcome. Friday at 6:30 there’s a potluck picnic with a bonfire, music by Dan Schmitz and storytelling at 8:30. Saturday and Sunday the festival opens at 11:00 a.m.. Saturday and Sunday Double Trouble will perform at 1:00 p.m. Jan Smith, author and storyteller at 2:00 p.m. and Asham Stompers Metis Traditional Dancers at 3:30 p.m.. Join RiverView Health’s Pharmacy staff for the free presentation, Diabetes Medication Management, on Thursday, August 29 at 3:00 p.m. The event is open to the public and will be presented at Oak Court, 110 Sargent Street, Crookston. Due to the RiverView Health construction, the south entrance to the Altru Clinic parking lot will be closed effective until further notice. Please use Carroll Street to access the north entrance to the Altru Clinic parking lot.  Altru Clinic would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. 

Branch and twig collection will be held the second and fourth Mondays of each month running May through October.  Place the materials on your curbside. Branches must be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled in order for the crews to take them away.  Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule pickup.It’s never too late to learn. The Crookston Public Library hosts baby bounce the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 10:00 a.m. with songs, stories, flannel board, action poems for infants and toddlers plus their caregivers. 

The Crookston Public Library hosts WOW: What’s on Wednesday? the second Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. for children ages 7-12 with crafts, activities and more. 

Every Thursday at 10:30 a.m., preschool children and their caregivers are invited to Storytime at the Crookston Public Library. Each week, they’ll explore a different theme through stories, songs, finger plays, flannel board stories, and a craft. No pre-registration is required, but they ask childcare providers and other groups to call ahead to ensure there will be adequate supplies at 281-4522.

The Polk County Historical Society Museum is open during the summer each Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 4:00 p.m. For more information call 218-281-1038.  Admission is free- donations accepted. 

Riverview Health’s monthly Type 2 Diabetes Support Group meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at RiverView Health in Meeting Room 1.  The group is led by RiverView Dietitian Darcy Larson, RD, LD and Kelsey Billing, RN, BSN. The Type 2 meetings are open to anyone with Type 2 diabetes and their family members.  New members are always welcome.
