CROOKSTON LEGION POST 20 LOSES, TIES WITH STEPHEN-ARGYLE

Crookston Legion Post 20 took an 11-0 loss to Stephen-Argyle in game one and played to an 8-8 extra inning tie in game two before the game was called due to darkness. 

Game 1 – 

Stephen-Argyle jumped out to an early lead when the first two batters reached on errors and Hunter Yutrzenka followed with a three-run home run to left field for a 3-0 lead.  

Stephen-Argyle would add to the lead in the second scoring four runs on five hits to push their lead to 7-0.  Three more Crookston errors in the third helped Stephen-Argyle score four more runs capped off by a Mike Jacobson two-run double that made it 11-0. 

Crookston was unable to mount much offense as only four batters reached base.  Any Crookston threat was quickly eliminated as they hit into three double plays and one runner was thrown out trying to steal second.

 Game 2 – 

Crookston would take an early lead in game two when Ashton Larson drew a bases load walk to make it 1-0 in the first inning.  They would add to their lead with three straight walks to open the second inning followed by a wild pitch to score Joe Doda.  Brooks Butt would follow with a two-RBI single off the left field wall to put Crookston in front 4-0. Stephen-Argyle answered in the bottom of the inning when back-to-back singles, with an error in the outfield on the second hit to put runners on the corners.  An error would bring home the first run to make it 4-1.  A single brought home the second run of the inning to make it 4-2 with runners on the corners.  Stephen Argyle attempted a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up but Crookston was able to force out the lead runner for the second out of the inning.  Back-to-back errors at short led to the third and fourth runs tieing the game at 4-4.  

Crookston reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning when Brooks Butt struck out but reached on a wild pitch.  Pinch runner Jake Miller advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a single by Ashton Larson.  Walker Winjum would follow with a 2-RBI double to make it 6-4.  Cade Deleon then singled giving Crookston a 7-4 lead.  Stephen-Argyle answered in the home half when back-to-back singles chased starting pitcher Carter Bruggeman.  Following a flyout, back-to-back walks forced in a run making it 7-5.  A wild pitch scored a run to make it 7-6 before an error brought home the tying run.  Easton Olson then delivered an RBI single to make it 8-7 Stephen-Argyle.  

Crookston would tie the game in the fifth when Brady Butt singled home a run to make it 8-8.  Jake Miller laid down a sacrifice bunt to put runners on second and third with one out before Cade Coauette was intentionally walked to load the bases.  Larson ripped a line-drive to third the was snagged just above the shoelaces by the third baseman who was able to step on third for a double play to end the Crookston threat.  

Crookston’s lead-off runner reached in the sixth when Winjum blooped a single to right center but he would be doubled up on a hit and run when Deleon popped out to the first baseman.  Stephen-Argyle would go in order in the home half and the game was called because of darkness. 

Crookston falls to 4-5-1 on the year and will travel to Red Lake Falls on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader.
