The University of Minnesota Extension will hold a Beef Quality Assurance and Secure Beef Supply certification in the University Teaching and Outreach Center at UMC today at 1 p.m.  The program is free and provides an opportunity to learn about best management practices, herd health and animal stewardship to create a quality beef supply and increase consumer confidence.  Contact Health Dufault at 280-1129 or pohl0024@umn.edu for information or to register.

The 38th Annual F.C.A. Texas Scramble will be Saturday, June 15 at Minakwa Golf Course. Entry fee is $55 and includes green fees, coffee rolls, lunch, and soft drinks on the course. Registration starts at 8:00 a.m., shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. There will be prizes, most accurate drive and closest to the pin contests. For more information, call 281-4635.

The Northern Minnesota Songwriters will have a meeting Saturday, June 15 at NLfx in Bemidji.  The meeting runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Attendees are welcome to bring a bag lunch. The gathering is free of charge.

The Crookston Eagles will have bar bingo Saturday, June 15 at 3:30 p.m., $400 must go.  Dinner will be served from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. with choice of BBQ Ribs for $13 or Walleye for $14.  Dinners are served with salad, potato, vegetable and rolls. Takeout is available.

Polish Day in Florian to benefit the Assumption Repair Fund is Sunday, June 16 beginning with mass at 10:30 a.m. featuring the Dolina Polish Choir Members.  There will be a dinner fundraiser from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Adults $10, 6-12 year-olds $5.00, 5 and under free. Following dinner at the P.N.A. Hall there will be Polish dancing and singing with the Dolina Polish Folk Ensemble and The Overtones, water wares, a clown, balloons and face painting.  The activity is funded in part by a grant from the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council, and the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

The Crookston Public Library will hold a Star Wars Extravaganza Wednesday, June 19 at 2:00 p.m. Join them  for a special Star Wars event featuring the Grand Forks LudoSport Light Saber Academy with an exhibit of artifacts such as a Star Wars Car, and activities including a demonstration and instruction of Light Saber combat.

Trinity’s Annual Rhubarb Festival will be Thursday, June 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Menu includes Trinity Festival Turkey salad, rhubarb salad, rolls, rhubarb desserts and beverage. There’s also a rhubarb punch and tasting table. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12. The Crookston Public Library will have a “Panic at the Disco” Murder Mystery Thursday, June 27 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.  Set at the House of Groove Discotheque during their annual Disco Fever Contest where people will flock to the disco to compete in a crowd of celebs, musicians, entrepreneurs, and athletes.  Attendees have the option of playing an official role in the mystery or be an investigator attempting to solve the crime. The Summer Food Service Program runs Monday through Friday until August 17.  Free meals are available for kids and teens at the Crookston Family Service Center.  Breakfast is 8:00 to 9:30 a.m., lunch is 10:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Branch and twig collection will be held the second and fourth Mondays of each month running May through October.  Place the materials on your curbside. Branches must be cut in four-foot lengths and bundled in order for the crews to take them away.  Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule pickup.It’s never too late to learn. The Crookston Public Library hosts WOW: What’s on Wednesday? the second Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. for children ages 7-12 with crafts, activities and more.

Riverview Health’s monthly Type 2 Diabetes Support Group meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at RiverView Health in Meeting Room 1.  The group is led by RiverView Dietitian Darcy Larson, RD, LD and Kelsey Billing, RN, BSN. The Type 2 meetings are open to anyone with Type 2 diabetes and their family members.  New members are always welcome.

Every Thursday at 10:30 a.m., preschool children and their caregivers are invited to Storytime at the Crookston Public Library. Each week, they’ll explore a different theme through stories, songs, finger plays, flannel board stories, and a craft. No pre-registration is required, but they ask childcare providers and other groups to call ahead to ensure there will be adequate supplies at 281-4522.

Hospice of the Red River Valley is offering a seasonal grief support group in Crookston the first and third Thursday of the month April thru June from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Crookston Public Library. The grief support group is free and open to any adult 18 years and older who are grieving the loss of a loved one through death. There is no pre-registration required to attend the group.

The Crookston Public Library hosts an Adult Craft Group the second Saturday of each month at 1:00 p.m. free of charge and open to all people of all experience levels to bring their unfinished projects and join others for encouragement and inspiration.
