Nick Garmen and Jack Garmen

The KROX Radio/Draft’s Sports Bar and Grill athletes of the week are the Crookston High School state-bound doubles team of Nick Garmen and Jack Garmen.  The two are three-sport athletes and finished second place in the Section 8A Individual tennis tournament and will advance to state June 6-7 in Minneapolis.  Coach Cody Brekken won’t be able to make the state tournament because of National Guard duties, but Mike Geffre or their dad, Greg Garmen will be coaching them at state.

Nick has been on the Pirate Boys Tennis team varsity squad since seventh grade and he was on the team that finished fourth at state when he was a sophomore.  Nick finished third place in singles as a junior and this year he teamed up with his brother Jack and they finished second to advance to the state tennis tournament.
Nick has played varsity since his freshman year and passed the 1000 career point mark this season.  He is one of the leading three-point shooters, rebounders, and scorers in Crookston Pirate Boys Basketball history.  He was Academic All-State and all-conference.
Nick is a three-sport athlete and played varsity football for three years.  He played tight end and defensive end. This fall he received the Zammart Award and had two receptions for 20 yards and even threw one pass.  Defensively, Nick led the team with two sacks and was 14th on the team in defensive points.
Nick is a member of the band where he plays the euphonium in the brass section.  He is a member of the LEO Club and he is on the honor roll.  Nick has also received the following senior awards- Excellence in Athletics, Senior Award, Athlete of the Year, and CHS Citizenship award.

Jack is a freshman that has been playing varsity since seventh grade and played a mix of singles and doubles throughout the year.  This will be Jack’s second trip to the state tournament.  He was a member of the Pirate team that finished fourth at state when he was a seventh grader with his two older brothers.  Jack has become a solid all-around player and most people wouldn’t be able to tell he is a freshman because of his poise and talent.
Jack is a three-sport athlete and played varsity football this year and was a tight end and defensive end.  He also played varsity basketball where he was one of the starters and had a solid freshman season for the Pirates.
He is also a member of the Leo Club, he plays the tuba in the band and is on the honor roll.
