Graduation for Crookston High School will be today.  Staff and Seniors will have breakfast a 7:30 a.m., rehearsal will be at 9:00 a.m., graduation is at 7:00 p.m. in the Crookston High School Gym.

The Golden Link will have coffee and rolls today at 9:00 a.m., cards at 12:45 p.m. and exercise class at 2:00 p.m.

In keeping with Villa St. Vincent’s Veterans Promise to honor veterans living and working at the Villa and SUMMIT, representatives from the VFW auxiliary and other VFW members will be presenting a Memorial Day program today at 2:00 p.m. at the Villa’s Station 230 Dining Room. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.  God bless our veterans.

The Crookston Ox Cart Day Committee will be serving a $2 meal of a hot dog, chips, and soda today from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Hugo’s parking lot in Crookston. This is a fundraiser for Ox Cart Days.

Students currently enrolled in Crookston Public Schools interested in taking Driver Education this summer need to stop in the High School Office to pick up a registration form.  Students need to be 15 years of age by October 31, 2019. The cost is $325 and needs to be paid on the first day of class. Registration forms are due back no later than today at 3:30 pm in the High School office.  The first day of class will be Thursday, May 30, 2019. Registration Form.

The Crookston Eagles will have bar bingo Saturday, May 25 at 3:00 p.m., $400 must go.  There will NOT be dinner due to a private party.

Poppy Day in Euclid will be Sunday, May 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the One N’ Only Store. Coffee and rolls will be available. Please support the poppy program and our veterans.

Please join Roger and Gladys Sondrol who will celebrate their 60 years of marriage, 50 of those living in Crookston Sunday, May 26 with an open house from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

The Polk County Transfer Station will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 27.  Normal hours will resume Tuesday, May 28 at 7:00 a.m.

The Noon Day Lions will not meet on Monday, May 27th.

There will be no school for Crookston Public Schools Monday, May 27.

The University of Minnesota Crookston, Crookston City Hall, Crookston Eagles, The Golden Link, Crookston Area Chamber and Visitor’s Bureau will be closed on Monday, May 27. The Polk County Transfer Station will also be closed and resume normal hours at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28.

City of Crookston garbage, twig and branch collection for Monday’s will be picked up Tuesday, May 28.  Tuesday’s garbage collection will remain the same.

The Crookston Veterans Council will hold Memorial Day services beginning Monday, May 27 at 8:20 a.m. at Hafslo Lutheran Cemetery, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Gentilly, at 10:00 a.m. at Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston, at 11:00 a.m. on the Sampson Bridge, at 11:50 a.m. at Sand Hill Lutheran Church Cemetery in Climax, and at 12:30 p.m. at the Crookston Military Walkway.

The Euclid Memorial Program, sponsored by the Euclid American Legion and Auxiliary Post #539,  will be Monday, May 27. Prairie-View Cemetery at 9:00 a.m., St. Paul’s Cemetery at 9:30 a.m., and St. Dorothy’s Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.

The Fisher Memorial Day Program will begin at the Fisher Public School Auditorium Monday, May 27 at 10:00 a.m. Approximate times for cemetery visits are 10:35 a.m. for Greenwood Cemetery, 11:00 a.m. for Fisher Lutheran Cemetery and 11:25 a.m. for Bygland Lutheran Cemetery.  Lunch will be at the American Legion Club from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. sponsored by American Legion Post 242 and Legion Auxiliary.

A Memorial Day Program will be held Monday, May 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sand Hill Lutheran Church, 34145 State Hwy 220 SW, Climax. The guest speaker will be Kurt Ellefson from Red Lake Falls.  The program will also include musical selections and readings followed by the Crookston Honor Guard Ceremony and lunch. Rodnes Church in rural Erskine will host their annual Memorial Day assortment of hotdishes, salads, desserts, pickles and bread on Monday, May 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Freewill offering, all are welcome.

The Polk County Commissioners will meet Tuesday, May 28 at 8:00 a.m. in the Commissioner’s Room at the Polk County Government Center.

The Highland Elementary 5th and 6th Grade Track Meet will be Tuesday, May 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Crookston Chapter No. 127, Order of the Eastern Star will meet Tuesday, May 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge.  This meeting will be honoring departed members.

Bike Crookston will  meet on Wednesday, May 29 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at the parklet by Daroo’s. If there is poor weather conditions, they will meet inside.

There will be a Code of Conduct and Ethics meeting on Wednesday, May 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room. A quorum of Council Members may be present at this event.

The second collection will be at the East Shore Beach Area of Maple Lake off County Highway 10 on Saturday, June 1st from 9am-12:00 noon.   

The Northwest Minnesota Arts Council will hold a artists reception Saturday, June 1 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. for their Parenthood Art Exhibit.

The 114th Garden Valley Technologies Annual Meeting will be Tuesday, June 4 at the Win-E-Mac Auditorium in Erskine. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m., meeting at 10:30 p.m. Entertainment by the Woodpicks, door prizes, attendance gifts, and a hot meal will be served. Directors will be elected from District 1, 4 and 7.

The Crookston Area Chamber and Visitor’s Bureau will have a Chamber Member Mixer Tuesday, June 4 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Irishman’s Shanty.

The Fisher American Legion will have an Auxiliary meeting Tuesday, June 4 at 7:00 p.m.

The 17th annual Festival of Tables will be held June 5th in Lafayette High School lunchroom.  The doors will open at 10:30 to view tables and silent auction baskets, and seating for the salad luncheon will be at 11:30.  Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Headquarters in RLF. This year all proceeds from ticket sales will be given to Trails to Treatments, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to assist those in need of funding during their treatment of cancer.

Hospice of the Red River Valley is offering a seasonal grief support group Thursday, June 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Crookston Public Library. The grief support group is free and open to any adult 18 years and older who are grieving the loss of a loved one through death. There is no pre-registration required to attend the group.

The University of Minnesota Crookston softball program will hold a summer hitting and pitching clinic Saturday, June 8 on the University of Minnesota Crookston campus. The pitching camp will run from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., while the hitting clinic will commence at 1 p.m., and conclude at 3 p.m. The cost of the camp is $50 per session and $90 if attending both sessions.

Side Street Bar and Grill in Fertile will have a an appetizer/wing contest fundraiser for Matt Larson on Saturday, June 8 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and they are looking for contestants. There is a $10 entry fee and prizes for 1st and 2nd place. A free will donation will be taken to sample and vote.  All proceeds will go to the Matt Larson Medical Recovery. Contact Liz at 945-6830.

Trinity’s Annual Rhubarb Festival will be Thursday, June 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Menu includes Trinity Festival Turkey salad, rhubarb salad, rolls, rhubarb desserts and beverage. There’s also a rhubarb punch and tasting table. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12. The Bake Sale opens at 10:30 a.m. An updated edition of the Trinity Rhubarb Festival Cookbook will be for sale.

Due to the RiverView Health construction, the south entrance to the Altru Clinic parking lot will be closed effective until further notice. Please use Carroll Street to access the north entrance to the Altru Clinic parking lot.  Altru Clinic will like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The 10th Annual Adopt-a-Basket Program is still underway.  The price for these colorful flower baskets is the same as last year $65.00.  Branch and twig collection will be held the second and fourth Mondays of each month running May through October.  Place the materials on your curbside. Branches must be cut in four-foot lengths and bundled in order for the crews to take them away.  Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule pickup.It’s never too late to learn. Early Childhood Family Education has Oh, The Places We’ll Go each Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for children ages birth to kindergarten entrance.  Mix it up Mondays and enroll in the EFCF class that is going places. Both parent and child’s needs are met with creative activities and personal growth opportunities.  Parents will select their favorite places to visit and explore in Crookston and the surrounding area. Mix up your Mondays and register for this exciting class offered from October through May.  Cost for the entire program is $50.

Early Childhood Family Education offers Unplug and Play the first and second Tuesday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for children ages birth to kindergarten at Washington School. It’s time to “Unplug and Play!” Get out of the house and have some family fun in the gym at Washington School. A variety of equipment will be available for children and their parents to enjoy and explore together (riding toys, scooters, net games, balls, circle games, etc.). Get up and get going to this fun and exciting FREE ECFE class.

Riverview Health’s monthly Type 2 Diabetes Support Group meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at RiverView Health in Meeting Room 1.  The group is led by RiverView Dietitian Darcy Larson, RD, LD and Kelsey Billing, RN, BSN. The Type 2 meetings are open to anyone with Type 2 diabetes and their family members.  New members are always welcome.

Men’s Basketball at Highland Gym is every Wednesday night until May from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. All players must be 18 years of age, out of High School and must register before playing.  Register at the Community Education Office at Washington School, the fee is $15. No one will be allowed to play before registering.

Every Thursday at 10:30 a.m., preschool children and their caregivers are invited to Storytime at the Crookston Public Library. Each week, they’ll explore a different theme through stories, songs, finger plays, flannel board stories, and a craft. No pre-registration is required, but they ask childcare providers and other groups to call ahead to ensure there will be adequate supplies at 281-4522.

Early Childhood Family Education offers Books Alive Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Washington School for children ages birth to kindergarten entrance.  Books Alive encourages pre-literacy skills in young children by engaging them in a new book each week and providing activities that make the book seem to COME ALIVE! Activities include creative art, science, and sensory exploration, music/rhythm/rhyme and dance, and imaginative play. The class ends with a cooking project, related to the book, which is enjoyed as a snack. New friends and vital early learning will be acquired from this fun class! Books Alive costs $50, with a $15 supply fee and runs October through May.

Early Childhood Family Education presents Mixed Age Magic on Fridays from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Washington School.  This magical class begins in the gym with active playtime using balls, scooters, parachutes, riding toys, and other fun equipment.  After gym time, families return to the classroom for circle time with stories and songs. Parents will meet informally to share ideas and discuss topics such as positive discipline strategies, challenging behaviors, food, health, safety tips and more.  Parents learn from each other as they discuss topics that most interest them. During parent education time, the children remain in the classroom to play and explore with each other and the early childhood teacher and classroom aide. Mixed Age Magic is for children ages birth to kindergarten entrance, the cost is $50, and the program runs from October through May.

Early Childhood Family Education offers Pop in and Play the third Saturday of each Month from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for children ages birth to kindergarten entrance.  Pop in and play in the gym! You and your child can come and play in the gym using equipment designed for young children. Come expecting to have lots of fun making wonderful memories with your child. This class is free.
